“As current Western society becomes increasingly filled with fears for the future, its art and entertainment consciously insulates its audience with the language and images of nostalgia. To critique and comment on contemporary culture through distorted versions of the past has become a fundamental aspect of postmodernism.” *

A Day For Night is a collection of multi-media works whose purpose is to explore the issue of nostalgia. It features around fifteen artists who have responded to this challenge in a variety of ways. “Contributing artists to A Day For Night display varying attitudes to nostalgia, whether it be a critique on the societal condition, appropriation of imagery from popular culture or the use of kitsch. A Day for Night attempts to deconstruct the language of nostalgia and to understand the cultural and historical dimensions that define it.” *

A Day For Night is open Monday 3rd November at the Royal Jewellery Studio (486 New North Rd, Kingsland). The show starts at 6pm and is on for one night only.
